The men and women’s basketball teams both advanced to the Detroit Metro Athletic Conference championship games on Saturday with semi-final victories on Thursday night.
The Lady Lakers defeated Star International Academy by a score of 55-19 and improved to 18-1 on the season with the victory. Senior guard Alexxis Jenkins scored 20 while freshman guard Jaida Reese added 15. The team will play Cesar Chavez (12-4) in the DMAC championship game at 4:00 pm on Saturday afternoon at Hope of Detroit Academy.
On the men’s side, the Lakers (11-7) advanced to the championship game with a hard fought 60-55 victory over Cesar Chavez. Junior center Anthony Rogers dropped in 15 points while sophomore Zach Mingo netted 12 points and senior Wellington Bryant added 11. The boys will play Canton Prep (15-4) in the championship game at Hope of Detroit Academy at 5:30 pm on Saturday afternoon.
