The men and women’s track team competed at the MHSAA Regional Meet in Whitmore Lake on Friday. Five Lakers qualified for the MHSAA State Meet to be held in Grand Rapids over the first weekend in June.
On the boy’s side, senior Javon Russ qualified in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The team as a whole finished with a respectable 9th place finish among the 16 teams present and was the top finishing Charter School at the meet.
For the girls, senior Zariea Free won the 100 meter high hurdles and will be joined by senior Diamond Kelly, sophomore Channel White and freshman Jaida Reese in the 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 200 meter relays. The 4 x 100 meter relay team was a gold medalist finishing in 1st place. The women’s team finished in 5th place overall among the 18 teams at the regional and was also the top Charter School team at the meet. Combined the two teams brought home 27 medals on the day.
