Varsity Football · Football Team Improves to 3-2


The ATA football team traveled to Lutheran Westland on Friday and defeated the Warrior’s by a score of 20-19 in Michigan Independent Athletic Conference (MIAC) play.

The Lakers won the game after the team got the ball with less than 5 minutes to play and drove 50 yards down the field to score. Senior RB Morris Briggs scored the go ahead TD with a 4 yard run with less than 30 seconds to play.

Briggs finished the evening with 54 yards and 2 TD’s on 7 carries. Junior QB Kyle Germany led the team with 89 yards rushing and a TD while  Senior FB Jaylin Gilmore finished with 83 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior DB Bishop Willingham led the way with 6 tackles while junior LB Tariq Harris finished with 5 tackles and  junior DE Armon Parker finished with 5.5 tackles among 4.5 TFL’s.  Junior DB Christian Boler added an interception.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday October 24th as they will host Sterling Heights Parkway Christian @ Riverview Gabriel Richard High School in MIAC play. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.

On Sunday morning, the MHSAA playoff brackets will be announced. Currently the Lakers sit as the 5th seed in their 8 team District. First round games will be played either Friday, October 30th or Saturday, October 31st.
